High dose MDMA and dimethylpentylone found in ‘MDMA’ sample
A red pressed skull pill weighing 602mg expected to contain MDMA (ecstasy), was found to contain 26% MDMA base (157mg) and the synthetic cathinone dimethylpentylone
This amount of MDMA may be more than the amount that someone may usually expect to take, either recreationally or in a clinical setting.
Similar MDMA and dimethylpentylone mixtures have also been presented to CanTEST in capsule form recently. The combination of MDMA and DMP is more high risk than either substance on its own.
What does this mean? The amount of MDMA in every pill may vary. DMP is a powerful stimulant additive that has been substituted for MDMA. The stimulant effects of DMP and the comedown can be much longer lasting compared to MDMA. When users are expecting MDMA, the effects of DMP can be unpredictable.
Effects of DMP may include a significantly elevated heart rate, an urge to re-dose more frequently than with MDMA, elevated body temperature, tingling in extremities, anxiety, headaches and insomnia. The risk of MDMA overdose increases in warmer environments and with doses over 120mg. When MDMA is combined with DMP the risk of stimulant overdose increases.
Signs of stimulant overdose may include signs of serotonin and sympathomimetic toxicity, such as confusion, agitation, overheating, seizures or fits, muscle tension, nausea or vomiting and irregular heart rhythm. In an emergency, timing is crucial.

Start low & go slow. Take half or less and ask a trusted person to check on you. Experiencing adverse or unexpected effects? Don’t take more.
Carry Naloxone. It’s free from CanTEST and participating pharmacies. Naloxone can reverse and opioid overdose in the event of an emergency.
Know the signs. Call an ambulance (000) immediately if you see warning signs of unexpected reactions to drugs.
