Dimethylpentylone (DMP), 2′-fluoro-2-oxo-PCE and MDMA found in ‘MDMA’ sample
A blue pressed ‘Red Bull’ pill expected to contain MDMA (ecstasy), was found to contain dimethylpentylone (DMP), 2′-fluoro-2-oxo-PCE and MDMA. This is the first time this combination was detected in a single pill.
Pills may look the same or similar, but have entirely different contents (on 29th Jan, NSW Health issued a Drug Warning when a similar ‘Red Bull’ logo press pill, in red/orange colour, was sold as MDMA and found to contain a potent opioid nitazene).
What is DMP? A synthetic cathinone with stimulant effects.
What is 2’fluoro-2-oxo-PCE? Also known as 2F-NENDCK, it’s a novel analgesic related to ketamine. Both can impair motor/coordination skills, but they are cardio stimulants meaning they increase a person’s hear rate and blood pressure.
Reducing the harm
DMP is a powerful stimulant additive that has been substituted for MDMA. The stimulant effects of DMP and the comedown can be much longer compared to MDMA. When users are expecting MDMA, the effects of DMP can be unpredictable.
Effects of DMP may include a significantly elevated heart rate, an urge to re-dose more frequently than with MDMA, elevated body temperature, tingling in ectremities, anciety, headaches and insomnia. When MDMA is combined with DMP the risk of stimulant overdose increases.
